P rofessor ROTH received her doctor’s degree as well as her habilitation from Johannes Kepler University Linz, Austria, and her LL.M. from Harvard Law School, USA. After having gathered practical experience as an associate at the law firm of Saxinger, Chalupsky and partners and as a junior judge at various law courts in Austria, she served as legal consultant at the Arbitration Office of the Ministry of Justice, Thailand. In 1994, she was visiting professor at the University of Puerto Rico and later in this year, within the scope of the Civic Education Project of Yale University, at the Institute of Public Administration and Local Government in Kiev, Ukraine.
From 1994 to 1996 Professor ROTH held the chair for civil law with focus on family law, civil procedure and comparative law at Humboldt University Berlin and from 1996 to 1998 a similar position at Christian Albrechts University Kiel. In 1998, Professor ROTH joined the Salzburg faculty, and served as Vice Dean of this Law School from 2004 to 2009, and from 2009 to 2013 as Chair of the Academic Senate. Also, Professor ROTH is a member of the Commission on European Family Law involved in the elaboration of Principles on European Family Law.
Besides her academic career, Professor ROTH has frequently been retained as sole and presiding arbitrator in international and domestic commercial arbitrations both ad hoc and institutional. Her numerous publications focus on European and international family law, litigation, arbitration, and mediation. For her writings Professor ROTH received several academic awards, e.g. the Albert S. Pergam Prize of the New York Bar Association.
