H AN Shiyuan is a professor of Civil Law in Tsinghua University School of Law (Beijing) and director of European and Comparative Law Center. He is a specially appointed professor of the Law Institute, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS). He is also an executive council member of China Civil Law Society, and an associate member of International Academy of Comparative Law (Académie internationale de droit compare). He obtained his PhD in law (Dr.) from the Graduate School of CASS (1997), and his LLM (1994) and LLB (1991) from Jilin University in China.
He has visited Max-Planck Institute for Comparative Private Law (Hamburg) as a visiting scholar for two times. One is from October 2006 to September 2007 with a Scholarship of China Scholarship Council; the other is from June to September 2009 with a Scholarship of Max Planck Society. He has also been a HIF Research Fellow at the Faculty of Law, Hosei University (Tokyo, Japan) from October 2000 to September 2001 with a Scholarship of Hosei International Foundation. He will visit USA for one year since September 2014 as a Fulbright Visiting Scholar.
His research interests primarily focus on Chinese civil law, the CISG and comparative law. He has published a number of books, including The Law of Contract (2011, 3rd ed., Law Press, China), Contract Law (2010, Higher Education Press, China), Obstacles for Performance and Contractual Remedies (2006, Law Press, China), and Studies on Damages for Breach of Contract (1999, Law Press, China).
Prof. HAN is also arbitrator both in Beijing Arbitration Commission and China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC).
